Silver Lining

Some weeks are tough. Weeks where every day is rain and your backyard begins to resemble a bog can eventually start to dampen the perkiest personalities. If you add on an epidemic and arriving home long after dark, the week can become downright depressing.

There is sometimes a silver lining to weeks like this. Weeks where you simply cannot find a minute to get in the garden. When you finally do find the time to go outside, in between rainstorms and pages, you find huge changes. In the yard, gray has become green, the air smells great from spicy viburnums and sweet daphne and finally, at long last, the vegetables seem to be growing. I only have a few minutes to blog tonight, so I'm just going to share a few images that brightened my day. : )

Hi Stacy- those would brighten my day too! It is so easy to get overwhelmed. I stopped watching the new about 10 years ago and man, do I feel better. My husband will let me know if an tsunami is getting ready to hit Idaho and I will take action then. I can't stand all the negative that knowing brings me. I know my stance on this is somewhat ignorant but I choose it. I play in the dirt and dont' worry so much about all the bad stuff.
PS- all this is written by a total contol freak who obsesses about everything and often doesn't sleep because of it, so I know what you mean!

It looks lovely. My viburnum just opened yesterday and it was a breath of fresh air. I have iris that are blooming along with tulips which has never happened before.
It's amazing how just not looking at my gardens ONE day during this time of year can produce so many changes.

Idaho Heather: It's so true, media overload can quickly make everything look grim, particularly when they over dramatize everything. I'm dealing with the flu thing at work and am stuck with it but everything else is getting ignored this week.

Colorado Heather: Thanks! Don't viburnums smell great? They are right up there with the daphne and hyacinths for best spreing smells.
